Every part made for its instrument

Everything by hand

We do everything by hand. In the workshop, only the bandsaw, the scroll saw and the lathe are plugged in. Everything else goes through the hand and the tool.

The parts

We cut the bridges ourselves, from patterns taken off old instruments and period paintings. We also study the principles of setup, such as the chiasmus. The wood comes from fellings I made myself, or from bought stock that has been drying for twenty or thirty years. We make the tailpieces, we cut the pegs. Everything happens here, from start to finish.

A tailpiece roughed out, resting on a plane. The same tailpiece, its ends hollowed.

Made to measure

Each part is made for its own instrument, and for no other. Nothing is settled in advance, everything is decided case by case. The neck projection, for instance, is set to work on carrying power and on the tension the strings put on the soundboard.
