A compagnonnage passed on

Passing on

The compagnonnage that trained me, with Luc Breton, belongs to a master to pupil tradition that is now rare, and has all but disappeared in France. I would like to keep it alive in my turn, here in Les Rousses, as a non-profit instrument making school. Learning there would go as mine did: at the bench, by doing.

Explain, show, have it done again

Nicolas Wicky stands in his workshop, in an apron, explaining a gesture in front of the tool wall.

An apprentices' workshop

An apprentices' workshop, beside the makers' own, to practise, to make one's first shavings, to learn. That is how trades were once passed on, and free of charge, as training in instrument making long was.

Later, I would also like to help those who wish it all the way to a workshop of their own.

Perhaps one day

Perhaps, one day, a music school will be added to it. Several musicians in the region would be ready to teach there.

Taking an interest

The school is being built. If the project interests you, as an apprentice, as a supporter or simply to know more, write to me.
